What Is Ingrown Hair?

An ingrown hair is hair that grows into the skin and gets inflamed after being removed. The removal of the hair can be through tweezing, shaving, or waxing. When growing back, the hair forms the shape of a loop, and its tip curves and grows back into the skin. Ingrown hair can have different signs and symptoms, including small swollen bumps, small solid bumps, tiny bumps with pus, and tiny dark bumps on the skin (hyperpigmentation). They can sting, burn, itch, or hurt with touch. Due to curlier hair textures, black individuals are most likely to have ingrown hairs. Usually, ingrown hairs go away on their own. In rare cases, it may need to be cut out by a practicing physician.

    How To Prevent Ingrown Hairs

Stop Hair Removal - or not!

Most people who have ingrown hair do not need treatment for it. Instead of dealing with ingrown hairs forever, let us try to prevent them altogether! You can avoid this condition by keeping your hair as it is and not bothering it with waxing, shaving, or tweezing. If you cannot discontinue removing your hair, try other methods that are less prone to ingrown hair. According to the Mayo Clinic, two hair removal methods are worth trying:

    Post Shaving/Waxing Routine

Top estheticians recommend post-waxing routines. Luckily, we at Kushae have created natural, non-toxic ingrown hair products to help you create a personal routine for smooth, polished, and moisturized skin after waxing, shaving, or returning to natural. You can try the Feminine Soothing Cream, designed to soothe, hydrate, and moisturize your skin back to its natural state after you wax or shave. We also recommend our daily exfoliation scrub after your waxing to reduce clogged pores and ingrown hairs. And what should you do about that post-wax inflammation? Try our Premiere Luxurious All-Natural Body Oil, a natural complex that reduces redness and restores elasticity in your skin – perfect for when your skin is feeling a little sore.

    Shave In The Right Direction

Having products to prevent ingrown hair are extremely helpful and by making sure you are shaving in the direction of your hair growth, they will be even more effective. While shaving, remember to use small strokes and cleanse the razor after each stroke.
